Sindh Govt Announces Rs7B Relief Package for Gul Plaza After Deadly Fire

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah announced a Rs7 billion relief package for Gul Plaza tragedy victims. The compensation includes Rs10 million each for 72 deceased families and immediate relief of Rs500,000 to 849 affected shopkeepers.

The fire at Gul Plaza in January claimed over 70 lives and destroyed hundreds of shops. A total of Rs511 million in compensation cheques has been distributed among 200 verified victims. The remaining compensation will be released after KCCI verification based on inventory losses.

CM Murad praised the resilience of the affected families and traders, emphasizing the need for stronger preventive safety measures to avoid future tragedies. He also announced a Judicial Commission committee to implement recommendations from the report on the Gul Plaza tragedy, ensuring accountability for those found responsible.

The chief minister assured that new Gul Plaza building with the same number of shops would be constructed within two years. Major infrastructure and rehabilitation initiatives are underway across Karachi, including Azeempura Flyover completion by May 10th.
