Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leader Sirajul Haq has voiced apprehensions regarding the conviction of PTI founder Imran Khan and his deputy Shah Mahmood Qureshi in a cipher case.

The former senator emphasized the necessity of conducting the trial of both politicians in an open court to adhere to legal requirements. He urged the formation of an independent commission to investigate the cipher case.

Sirajul Haq underscored the importance of making the facts surrounding the cipher case public, alleging interference by the United States in Pakistan’s national affairs.

He stated that Imran Khan retains the right to file an appeal against the verdict and emphasized that rulings must align with the constitution and established rules and regulations.

These remarks from Sirajul Haq follow the sentencing of the former prime minister and his deputy to 10 years in jail by a special court established under the Official Secrets Act for their involvement in the cipher case.
