Residents in Karachi have turned to solar panels as an alternative due to severe load-shedding and soaring electricity bills. However, they claim prices have surged sharply on Wednesday.
Local reports indicate that solar panel prices have risen by seven to eight rupees per watt. A 585-watt solar plate, previously sold for approximately sixteen thousand five hundred rupees, is now reportedly priced at up to twenty-five thousand rupees.
Citizens also allege the price per watt has increased to around forty rupees. They say the situation is worsening as electricity supply remains unstable while monthly bills continue to rise.
Residents further claim that despite increased demand, warehouses remain stocked with solar equipment, raising concerns of price manipulation. People are now facing a double burden of expensive electricity and rising costs for alternative energy solutions.
