The federal government has established special courts across the country to address cases of harassment and attacks against lawyers. The Law Ministry issued a notification on Saturday detailing the initiative, which aims to provide justice and expedited proceedings for the legal community.
The courts will operate in Islamabad, Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan. In each province, specific judicial authorities have been designated:
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Senior Additional District and Sessions Judges and Senior Civil Judges (Admin).
- Punjab: Additional District and Sessions Judge (1) and Senior Civil Judge in each district under the Lawyers Protection Act.
- Islamabad: Additional District and Sessions Judges and Senior Civil Judges (East and West).
- Sindh: Additional District and Sessions Judges (1) in all districts.
- Balochistan: District and Sessions Judges, Additional District and Sessions Judges, and Judicial Magistrates.
The government’s move seeks to safeguard lawyers and uphold their rights amidst rising concerns of targeted harassment.
