Spotify Launches ‘Verified by Spotify’ Badge to Distinguish Human Artists from AI-Generated Content
Spotify has introduced a new certification tool, “Verified by Spotify,” aimed at helping users differentiate between human-created music and AI-generated content. The badge will be displayed on profiles of artists who have been verified as human by the platform.
The company stated that signals of a real artist must be present in an uploader’s profile to receive the verification. This includes identifiable artist presence both on and off-platform, such as concert dates, merchandise links, and social media accounts.
Critics have previously accused Spotify of allowing AI-generated music to proliferate on its platform, potentially harming artists and devaluing human-created content. The streaming giant is now emphasizing the importance of authenticity in music.
To spot AI-generated content, Spotify advises users to look for an identifiable artist presence both online and offline. Profiles deemed to represent AI-generated or “AI-persona” artists will not receive the verified badge.
The introduction of this new tool underscores the growing challenge of distinguishing between human-created art and AI-produced works, especially as AI continues to advance in its ability to mimic human creativity across various industries.
