Six People Wounded in Penn Station Stabbing
New York’s mayor confirmed that six individuals, including one with serious injuries, were stabbed on Sunday at the city’s Penn Station. The incident occurred as New York prepared to host two major sporting events – the NBA Finals and football’s World Cup.
A suspect was detained and all victims are expected to survive, according to the New York Fire Department and city comptroller Mark Levine.
The attack took place in one of the nation’s busiest rail and subway transportation centers. The city is set to host games three and four of the NBA Finals on Monday and Wednesday at Madison Square Garden, as well as its first match of the World Cup at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Saturday.
Security has been enhanced ahead of these events. New York officials have also cancelled an outdoor watch party scheduled for Monday outside the Garden due to prior incidents involving unruly fans.
