Minister of State for IT and Telecom, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, has announced the registration of Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite internet service, with Pakistan’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SECP).
Speaking to private news channel, the minister revealed that the Space Board Authority is reviewing technical aspects, while updates have been communicated to Starlink. The government is also drafting a regulatory framework to open Pakistan’s market to low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite services for international providers.
Elon Musk recently stated on social media platform X that Starlink is awaiting operational approval in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Pakistan stands to benefit from the 2Africa Submarine Cable System, a project involving Meta and Vodafone, expected to boost internet speed and reliability. Facilitated by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority through Transworld Associates, this initiative underscores the country’s focus on advancing digital infrastructure.
