Starmer Faces Possible Inquiry Over Mandelson Appointment, Implications Loom

Britain’s parliament is set to vote on Tuesday regarding an inquiry into Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The House of Commons Speaker, Lindsay Hoyle, approved a request from opposition leader Kemi Badenoch for debate and voting on whether the Committee of Privileges should investigate.

The controversy stems from Mandelson’s dismissal last September due to his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. This revelation has raised questions about Starmer’s judgment in hiring Mandelson, especially considering that a security vetting body had flagged the appointment as borderline and against clearance – a decision overruled by foreign ministry officials without informing Starmer.

If found guilty of misleading parliament, Starmer’s position could become untenable, potentially leading to his resignation.
