Strong Earthquake Rattles Punjab, No Damage Reported

Friday’s 4.9 magnitude earthquake struck India near Kyelang, according to US Geological Survey data. The tremors were felt in Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and other Punjab cities, causing residents to evacuate homes and gather outdoors.

A Provincial Disaster Management Authority spokesperson confirmed no loss of life or property damage in Punjab, stating the epicentre was in the Kashmir region with a depth of 18 kilometres. Across India’s border, strong tremors were also reported in Chandigarh, Indian-occupied Kashmir, and other cities including Mohali, Panchkula, Noida, Ludhiana, Poonch, Srinagar, Udhampur, and Dehradun.

High-rise buildings residents in Chandigarh and adjoining areas of Mohali experienced shaking lasting several seconds, with light fixtures swaying and household items rattling. Despite panic, no casualties or structural damage were reported from these locations, while emergency services remained on alert and authorities closely monitored the situation.
