Submarine Cable Fault Near Qatar May Disrupt Internet Services in Pakistan

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has alerted the public to potential disruptions in internet and broadband services due to a fault in the submarine cable AAE-1 near Qatar.

The AAE-1 cable is one of seven undersea cables that handle Pakistan’s international internet traffic. The PTA stated, “This may impact internet and broadband user experience across Pakistan,” but assured that teams are working to resolve the issue.

The authority is closely monitoring the situation and promised to keep users updated.

Recently, Pakistanis have faced connectivity challenges, compounded by government plans to install a national firewall. PTA Chairman acknowledged the legal ambiguity of internet access restrictions and urged the ministries of law and interior to address the issue.
