Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal was named youngest head of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Tuesday after the National Sports Council dissolved BCB’s board of directors following an investigation into elections held in October. A committee found irregularities in the BCB’s election process, said Mohammed Aminul Ahesan, sports director of the NSC.
Tamim, 37, is youngest BCB president and will lead an 11-member ad hoc committee including former Bangladesh captain Minhajul Abedin and TV commentator Athar Ali Khan. Other members are Rashna Imam, Mirza Yeasir Abbas, Syed Ibrahim Ahmed, Israfil Khasru, Tanjil Chowdhury, Salman Ispahani, Rafiqul Islam and Fahim Sinha.
Ahesan informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that this board of directors was not formed in proper manner and is unable to complete its work properly. He said ICC will likely uphold the decision.
Previous BCB board led by Aminul Islam, who caused Bangladesh’s refusal to visit India for this year’s Twenty20 World Cup due to safety concerns. Bangladesh replaced by Scotland in tournament.
