In a significant development in Azad Kashmir, former Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas has announced that consultations regarding the election of a new President for the region are now complete. The announcement comes amid speculation and anticipation, as the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has been chosen to nominate its candidate.

Tanveer Ilyas, speaking in Islamabad on Wednesday, stressed that the process is moving swiftly towards fruition. He noted that with all consultations concluded, a new President for Azad Kashmir will be elected within the next few days. A change in leadership is also being prepared, as the Deputy Speaker of the Azad Kashmir Assembly has been identified as an individual likely to join the newly formed administration from the PPP.

Ilyas added that another critical position — that of Chief Election Commissioner — has already received federal government approval and is on its way for appointment. The focus now shifts towards finalizing the selection of this key official, who will oversee the upcoming elections in Azad Kashmir.

The quick turnaround highlights the efficiency with which political processes are being handled within Pakistan’s federally administered territories, particularly as they prepare to transition leadership amidst ongoing developments. As these decisions unfold, observers will be closely watching how these changes affect governance and stability in Azad Kashmir.
