Taylor Swift is facing a lawsuit over her latest album titled ‘The Life of a Showgirl.’ A Las Vegas-based writer and TV host, Maren Wade, filed the legal action in California federal court on Monday. The lawsuit alleges that Swift knowingly dismissed Wade’s claim to a similar title for her 12th studio album.
Wade owns the trademark to “Confessions of a Showgirl,” which she used as the title for her column, podcast, and live show since 2014. She claims that Swift ignored her trademark when using it for her album.
The lawsuit seeks an injunction preventing Swift from using the title while also demanding unspecified damages from UMG Recordings and the singer herself. Wade’s lawyer stated that a performer who has built a brand over twelve years should not have to see it vanish due to competition with someone more prominent.
