MAKKAH (ISLAMABAD) –

As the final Ashra of Ramadan draws to a close, thousands have descended upon the holy mosques in Makkah for a weeklong period of profound devotion and prayer known as Itikaf. The practice involves complete seclusion from the world within the sacred walls of these mosques, a time where worshippers seek closeness with Allah by fasting, praying, and reflecting on their faith.

Authorities have announced that formal arrangements for Itikaf commenced on the 20th fast day, welcoming over 15,000 participants who registered in advance. Special security measures and accommodations are being made at both Masjid al-Haram (Grand Mosque) and Masjid Nabawi (Prophet’s mosque), where devotees are engaging in intensive spiritual practices.

Remarkably, these sacred sites have also seen a record number of visitors despite tensions arising from the unrest in the Middle East. The disruption has led to some international flights being canceled, yet the pilgrims continue their journey towards Makkah and Madinah for this significant period.

This year’s Itikaf experience is particularly poignant given the global context. Amidst geopolitical challenges and travel disruptions, Muslims from across the world have come together in these holy places seeking divine blessings. For many, it’s a chance to reaffirm their faith amidst complex external circumstances, turning inward to pray and connect with the cosmos.

While tensions simmer elsewhere, worshippers at the Masjid al-Haram and Masjid Nabawi remain focused on their spiritual journey, making this final week of Ramadan an extraordinary chapter in Muslim history.
