Toll tax on Karachi roads to improve KMC: Salman Abdullah

Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad announced on Thursday that a toll tax is being imposed to enable the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to become self-sufficient and better serve the city.

Speaking to a private news channel, Abdullah stated that the toll tax on roads under KMC jurisdiction would be collected through the Sindh Excise Department.

He mentioned that work on roads within KMC limits is ongoing to improve convenience for commuters.

In a meeting on Tuesday, the City Council approved toll tax collection in collaboration with the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department for vehicles using Karachi’s roads and bridges.

The new tax was approved following a resolution presented by Irshad Ali Advocate and Dil Muhammad.

During a press conference, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab noted that while many institutions, including the National Highway, collect toll taxes, Karachi had not been receiving such taxes until now.
