Trump: Israel, Hezbollah Agree to Cease Fighting; Iran Talks Accelerate

US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that Israel and Hezbollah had agreed to cease hostilities. This development came after Iran talks were moving rapidly following initial setbacks due to Israel’s Lebanon offensive.

Trump stated he had spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and communicated through unnamed representatives with the militant group, confirming a ceasefire agreement. However, tensions between the US and Israel over the Middle East situation remained high.

Netanyahu appeared doubtful about any truce with Hezbollah, while Axios reported Trump calling Netanyahu “crazy” for potentially jeopardizing Iran peace talks. Iran’s news agency Tasnim also reported that Tehran had suspended dialogue with mediators due to Israel’s offensive in Lebanon against Hezbollah.

Trump later confirmed on his Truth Social network that he had a productive call with Netanyahu and that no troops were heading to Beirut, while Hezbollah agreed all shooting would stop. Talks with Iran were continuing rapidly, Trump added.

Netanyahu later told Trump that if Hezbollah did not stop attacking Israeli towns and citizens, Israel would strike terrorist targets in Beirut. However, Trump insisted that the Israeli leader had turned back any planned raid on Beirut, reiterating his claim of a ceasefire agreement and expressing hope for its longevity.
