US President Donald Trump announced plans to lift sanctions on Turkey during his meeting with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan at the NATO summit. The sanctions, imposed under the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) in 2020, were due to Ankara’s acquisition of Russian S-400 air defense systems and its removal from the F-35 fighter jet program.

Trump was expected to support a potential sale of F-35s during his visit to Ankara. However, legal and congressional hurdles remain unresolved. The President also said he and Erdogan would discuss trade matters.
