Teenager Opens Fire at High School in Turkey’s Sanliurfa

A teenager opened fire at a high school in Turkey’s southeastern province of Sanliurfa on Tuesday, wounding at least 16 people before taking his own life. The attack occurred in the Siverek district and involved the use of a shotgun.

The Interior Ministry reported that among those wounded were 10 students, four teachers, one police officer, and another individual employed in the school’s canteen. Governor Hasan Sildak stated that the shooter had no prior criminal record and that the school had previously been deemed safe by authorities.

Witnesses told broadcaster NTV that the attacker opened fire indiscriminately, starting in the school yard before entering the building. Police attempted to apprehend him when he took his own life.
