U.S. Men’s Soccer Team Advances Despite Loss

Turkey’s Kaan Ayhan scored the only goal for his side with the final kick of the match.

The U.S. had already secured its place in the knockout stage following a 2-0 victory over Australia on Friday. They also triumphed 4-1 against Paraguay in their opening match.

Only two previous World Cup tournaments saw the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team win two matches – 1930 and 2002.

The Round of 32 will commence in Santa Clara, California, on July 1. A victory there could lead to a trip to Seattle for the Round of 16, then Inglewood, California, for the quarterfinals, and finally Arlington, Texas, for the semifinals if they win again.

The U.S. has only won one knockout-stage match in all their World Cup appearances – a 2-0 victory over Mexico in 2002.

The U.S. will face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32 on Wednesday.
