Uber is reportedly considering acquiring all stakes in Delivery Hero, according to Bloomberg News. This potential full takeover comes as Uber seeks to challenge DoorDash outside the US. A “full takeover” would mean Uber gaining complete ownership of Delivery Hero rather than just a partial stake.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Uber holds a 19.5% stake in the food delivery company. Now, Bloomberg suggests this could increase. The $11.8 billion German company is particularly vulnerable to a takeover at the moment, with its CEO recently stepping down following pressure from activist investors to sell off assets.
A full acquisition would give Uber significant control over operations in more than 60 countries, countering DoorDash’s European-focused Wolt unit. Currently, Uber is experiencing losses and has extended them further due to this news.
The idea remains speculative at the moment as no agreement has been reached yet. If it were to happen, it would significantly expand Uber’s presence in Europe’s food delivery market, where Delivery Hero operates a substantial network of services. This could signal potential major consolidation in the global food delivery industry, but for now, it is still unconfirmed.
