British anti-Islam activist Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, claims he was detained at Heathrow Airport on Saturday for around three hours under the Counter-Terrorism and Border Security Act. His phone was seized by the police.
Robinson tweeted about a week ago about violence in Northern Ireland after a video of brutal stabbing went viral, showing a man who lost an eye. A Sudanese man has been charged with attempted murder; police are not treating it as terrorism.
The attack sparked riots targeting homes and businesses owned by ethnic minorities or foreign residents, described as racist thuggery by the British minister for the province. Local politicians have said far-right agitators online helped coordinate or promote the violence.
A police spokesman stated that a man in his 40s was stopped at Heathrow Airport on Saturday following his return from Russia via Turkey. The man was interviewed and his communication devices were seized before being released.
