Britain’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer called for a calm approach to the escalating tensions in the Middle East, after US President Donald Trump criticized his leadership over Britain’s limited support for recent U.S. strikes on Iran.
Speaking in Parliament, Starmer expressed concern about public apprehension regarding any potential escalation of conflict and emphasized that the country needed clear, purposeful action while maintaining a rational mindset.
The UK leader highlighted that his government had been closely collaborating with the United States on deploying military assets to the region. Since weeks prior, Britain has been pre-positioning its forces there, engaging in extensive dialogue with U.S. authorities concerning these strategic movements.
Among other measures, the British military resources included advanced air defense and counter-drone systems as well as F-35 jets. Starmer defended his country’s stance, brushing off Trump’s criticisms and reaffirming Britain’s commitment to joint operations in the region despite tensions with America.
