U.S.-Israeli military campaign targets Iranian leadership, missile sites, and military infrastructure. The conflict has been ongoing for two months, with Iran experiencing daily bombardment since February 28th strikes.
The U.N. Security Council will convene closed-door consultations in New York on Friday to discuss the strikes at Moscow’s request, as reported by Russian state media. A spokesman for Russia’s envoy to the UN stated that the meetings are due to ongoing strikes on civilian infrastructure in Iran, including educational and healthcare facilities.
A U.S. military investigation revealed a targeting mistake caused a Tomahawk cruise missile strike on a girls’ school in Minab, killing over 160 children. The United States, holding the Security Council presidency this month, scheduled the meeting for 10:00 am New York time.
The campaign has prompted large-scale Iranian retaliation across the Gulf and effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, which carries a fifth of global crude and liquefied natural gas during peacetime.
