A devastating explosion rocked the Government Middle School (GMS) Boys’ Sharif Khan Kot in Birmal tehsil, South Waziristan, late on Monday, leaving no reports of casualties but causing significant structural damage. The incident, reported by District Police Officer Muhammad Tahir Shah Wazir, saw two classrooms and one side of the boundary wall destroyed, along with a main gate and bathrooms. The blast’s intensity was so pronounced that it could be heard miles away, prompting partial damage to nearby houses’ solar panels, walls, and windows.

Local authorities have launched an immediate investigation into the explosion, collecting evidence from the scene. They reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding educational facilities while maintaining peace in the region. Meanwhile, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi vehemently condemned this act of violence, highlighting it as a threat not only to knowledge but also to development and the future generation.

“We are enemies of knowledge, progress, and every child’s right to an education,” Governor Kundi declared, echoing sentiments that such attacks would bolster national unity rather than weaken resolve. In December 2025, terrorists had targeted a government primary school in Mirali tehsil, causing widespread fear and anxiety among students.

The governor emphasized the community’s solidarity with the state and its institutions to counter these acts of terror. He stressed that any attempt to disrupt peace and progress would only serve to unite the nation against those who seek division.
