U.S. Treasury Department Warns of Sanctions for Paying Iran Strait Fees

The U.S. Treasury Department has issued a stern warning to shipping firms against paying fees to Iran for navigating the Strait of Hormuz. This follows reports that Iranian authorities have been demanding transit fees and threatening navigation in the strait.

The department also stated that organizations donating to entities like the Iranian Red Crescent Society could face sanctions. These warnings come after Tehran reportedly proposed imposing such fees as part of broader proposals aimed at resolving tensions with Israel and the U.S.

In addition, new sanctions were announced targeting six individuals, 21 companies, and one vessel linked to Iran. The U.S. also imposed sanctions on certain Chinese entities, though specific details have not been disclosed.
