USS Gerald R. Ford Arrives in Split
The USS Gerald R. Ford, the world’s largest aircraft carrier involved in Middle East operations, arrived in Split, Croatia on Saturday, according to a statement from the US embassy.
Earlier this week, the carrier left a naval base in Crete following a laundry fire onboard that injured two crew members.
During its visit, the ship will host local officials and key leaders to recognize the strong alliance between the United States and Croatia.
The Ford’s deployment has been nearly nine months long, during which it participated in US operations in the Caribbean, including strikes on alleged drug-smuggling boats and interdiction of sanctioned tankers.
