Vice President JD Vance discussed the alignment of U.S. and Israeli interests with CBS Sunday Morning correspondent Robert Costa. He noted that while Israel is a close partner, there are instances where interests diverge.
“Prime Minister Netanyahu governs a country that has been closely aligned with the United States,” Vance explained. “But sometimes our interests align perfectly, and sometimes they don’t.”
Vance described Netanyahu as assertive in his country’s interests but affirmed President Trump’s clarity on what is best for America. “Sometimes we’re on the same page, and sometimes we aren’t,” he said.
When asked if Netanyahu has made mistakes, Vance acknowledged some missteps but declined to elaborate, stating private conversations should remain confidential.
Despite these differences, Vance emphasized that Israel remains a good partner and that U.S. actions will always prioritize American interests.
Recently, Trump has publicly urged Netanyahu to take the lead in Iran negotiations. This tension was further heightened by recent airstrikes on Beirut and an Israeli retaliatory strike.
