At least 14 people lost their lives and 20 were injured when a boiler exploded at a power plant operated by India’s Vedanta Ltd in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday. The explosion occurred about 230 km from the state capital, Raipur.
Local police confirmed the incident on Wednesday, stating that the cause of the explosion was not immediately identified. However, District Superintendent of Police PK Thakur suggested it might have been due to overheating in the boiler tube.
Vedanta issued a statement acknowledging an “unfortunate incident” at its Singhitarai plant and said they are conducting a thorough investigation into the cause.
