Carol Kirkwood, a weather presenter at the BBC for over two decades and one of the most familiar faces on British breakfast television, has announced she is leaving the broadcaster in April. At 63 years old, Kirkwood cited this as an opportune moment to move on from her long-standing role.

In a statement, Kirkwood expressed that while making the decision to leave was difficult, she believed it was the right time for her career progression. Reflecting upon her tenure at BBC Breakfast, she highlighted how much she had enjoyed every aspect of her job and the sense of camaraderie she shared with her colleagues over many years.

Kirkwood’s departure has garnered significant attention from both viewers and colleagues alike. Jonathan Munro, interim CEO of BBC News and Current Affairs, commended Kirkwood for setting a high standard in terms of trusted broadcasting and acknowledged how much her presence was appreciated by the audience.

In addition to her weather forecasts, Kirkwood appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2015 and has received multiple industry awards for her contributions to broadcasting. While she hasn’t yet revealed her next professional venture, there is considerable curiosity surrounding what BBC Breakfast mornings will be like without her presence.
