White House Directs Staff Against Insider Betting

The White House has issued a directive prohibiting its staff from using non-public information for betting on platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket. The email was sent on March 24, following Donald Trump’s announcement of a five-day pause on his threat to attack Iranian power plants.

Media reports suggested government officials might be leveraging insider knowledge for financial gain on these betting sites. White House spokesman Davis Ingle dismissed the allegations as baseless, stating there is no evidence of such activity and that all federal employees are bound by strict ethical guidelines prohibiting profiting from insider information.

The administration maintains its focus remains solely on the best interest of the American people. Major platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket have been contacted for comment.

Recent Incident Raises Concerns

A recent incident at Polymarket, where a gambler made nearly half a million dollars on the capture of Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro before it was officially announced, has raised concerns about individuals receiving special benefits from insider information regarding US military operations. Prediction markets, which host over $44bn in trades, have seen a surge in interest amid current situations.

US Senator Andy Kim from New Jersey warned that corruption and exploitation are thriving within the gaps and loopholes of prediction markets, leaving the select few winning big at the expense of working Americans. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) oversees derivatives markets, including prediction platforms, as Democratic leaders introduce legislation to ban markets related to war or military action.
