White House informed of Gulf countries’ missile interceptor shortage concerns

The White House is aware that Gulf nations are struggling with dwindling missile interceptors, forcing them to prioritize which threats to address. Multiple sources from CBS News have confirmed these concerns, indicating a critical shortage of defensive systems.

Margaret Brennan first reported on March 5 that the Gulf states were at grave risk, having run dangerously low on interceptor capabilities. She noted that officials had requested urgent delivery of new supplies from Washington. The U.S., in response, announced plans to create a task force but admitted this was not happening as quickly as needed.

CBS News chief correspondent Margaret Brennan revisited these issues during her appearance on “60 Minutes,” where she pressed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for more concrete action. Hegseth responded confidently, stating that the U.S. is “very prepared.” He emphasized that Iran’s missile capability had been severely reduced by 90%, and he projected a surplus of munitions well beyond what would be necessary.

Hegseth also shared insights on how the U.S. might assist allies in replenishing their interceptor stocks, emphasizing that any assistance would come with the caveat that the country’s own security would always be prioritized. He suggested that where feasible, the U.S. could offer support to its allies through cross-loading or resupply operations.

Meanwhile, Iran continued its relentless assault on Gulf states, unleashing missiles and drones across Bahrain over the past two days. An attack on an apartment building in Bahrain left a woman dead overnight, according to the country’s interior ministry.

Margaret Brennan provided valuable context for this unfolding crisis.
