Wholesalers and Grocers Announce Nationwide Strike Against Withholding Tax

The Wholesaler and Grocers Association announced a three-day strike across Pakistan starting July 31, in protest of the ‘unjust’ withholding tax imposed in the 2024-25 budget.

In a statement to a private channel, the Association’s spokesperson said that grocery shops, grain markets, and wholesale markets will remain closed from July 31 to August 2. The protest will continue until the taxes are abolished.

Earlier, the traders’ community threatened a nationwide shutdown if the government did not withdraw the recently issued Statutory Regulatory Order (SRO) under the Tajir-Dost Scheme.
