US President Donald Trump spoke with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday in wide-ranging talks on geopolitics ahead of Trump’s expected visit to China in April. Hours after Xi had a virtual meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the two leaders discussed trade, military issues, Taiwan, Russia’s war in Ukraine, Iran, and purchases of US-produced aircraft engines and oil and gas by China.
Trump said the call was “a long and thorough discussion.” He also mentioned that China agreed to increase its purchases of soybeans from the United States.
In a separate video conference, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Putin reaffirmed ties between their countries, emphasizing the importance of maintaining these relationships.
All very positive,” Trump stated on his Truth Social platform. “The relationship with China, and my personal relationship with President Xi, is an extremely good one, and we both realize how important it is to keep it that way.”
