84 diameter pipeline leak near Karachi University prompts 96-hour emergency repair operation

84- inch diameter water supply line near the University of Karachi suffered a significant leak on Tuesday, prompting swift emergency action by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC). The 84-inch diameter pipeline, identified as Siphon No. 19, began leak may cause partial disruption on water distribution in certain areas of Karachi.

According to the corporation’s spokesperson, KW&SC Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Ali Siddiqui took prompt notice of the situation and directed the relevant teams to begin repair work without delay. To ensure the safety of repair crews and facilitate the operation efficiently, water pressure in the affected pipeline was temporarily reduced. Full-scale repair activities have already commenced and will continue uninterrupted around the clock.

The KW&SC spokesperson stated that the repair work is expected to be completed in 96 hours. However, during this period, water supply to several parts of Karachi will be partially suspended. The affected neighborhoods include Chanesar Town, Jinnah Town, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Pak Colony, Golimar, Shershah, Old City Area, Landhi, Korangi, and PAF Base Masroor.

Currently, Karachi receives approximately 650 million gallons of water per day (MGD). Due to the ongoing repairs, the city will face a shortfall of 250 MGD, with only 400 MGD being supplied until the restoration is complete.

In light of the disruption, KW&SC has urged residents to conserve water and store it where possible to avoid inconvenience.
