LHC Issues Notices to Govt, OGRA Over Fuel Price Hike

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday issued notices to the federal government and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) over the recent increase in fuel prices.

Justice Shahid Karim directed the respondents to submit their replies after hearing a petition filed by lawyer Azhar Siddique. The petitioner argued that despite a decline in global petroleum prices, the government had raised fuel prices in Pakistan.

He urged the court to nullify the latest price hike, claiming there was no proper mechanism to determine fuel prices in the country.

The federal government, recently, announced a Rs7 per litre increase in petrol and diesel prices for the next fortnight, triggering public concern over rising costs.
