Actor Mariam Michael recently shared personal insights into her life, revealing that she married at 17 and divorced at 19. She expressed a desire to challenge societal stigma around divorce for women.

Michael had kept this part of her life private for years but realized that silence only fuels shame. “For years, I kept this part of my life private, but I’ve realised that silence only gives shame more power,” she wrote on social media.

The 17-year-old was married and divorced at 19, which Michael described as a mature conclusion reached by two young individuals who weren’t ready for marriage. She emphasized the mutual respect in their separation and expressed no resentment or bitterness today.

Responding to questions about her decision to share this story, Michael stated that it is simply her truth. “People often ask why I don’t hide this part of my life. The answer is simple: because it’s my story,” she said.

She noted that there was nothing from the past that she regretted as it shaped her into who she is today. “It taught me lessons I couldn’t have learned any other way,” she added, noting every experience contributes to one’s growth.

Michael criticized societal double standards, particularly how women are pressured to erase their past relationships. She questioned why divorce is seen as shameful when sometimes it’s two people realizing they aren’t right for each other.

She expressed hope that future marriages would be built on complete acceptance of her journey. “If I ever marry again, I hope it’s with someone who accepts every part of my journey,” she said.

Her statement aimed to empower followers, particularly women facing similar experiences. “A divorce does not define your worth. Your past does not make you less deserving of love. And your story is not something you have to hide,” she reminded her audience.

Michael concluded by clarifying that her post was neither a bid for attention nor an act of remorse but an offering of solidarity. “This isn’t a confession. It’s not an apology. It’s simply my truth.”
