Angry mob lynch suspected robber in Karachi’s Korangi

In the heart of Korangi, an act of vigilante justice claimed yet another life in recent weeks. On Saturday night, a suspected robber was brutally killed by an angry mob near Wali Pull, sparking a chaotic scene that left one individual dead and two others wounded last year.

Station House Officer Rao Aurangzeb from Zaman Town Station House provided the details to Dawn News. The incident took place just days after another robbery in New Karachi, where a suspected criminal was shot during an attack on two brothers. Despite this grim repetition of events, the authorities are quick to point out that these acts represent a rare form of justice often sought by local communities.

The most recent murder occurred when three suspects attempted to rob citizens near Wali Pull in Korangi No. 2. After gaining control over one suspect and attempting to make him divulge information about the other perpetrators, the mob escalated into an all-out brawl. The enraged crowd wielded sticks and other weapons before dispatching the victim on the spot.

While there were no immediate results from identifying the deceased suspect’s identity as requested by local authorities (CNIC not found in his possession), it is evident that a sense of justice prevailed once again in the area. According to Rao Aurangzeb, the body was later transported to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for formalities.

Interestingly, this act of mob justice bears resemblance to events last year when a suspected robber shot and wounded two brothers during a robbery attempt in Sector-11-G. After overpowering one suspect with hard and blunt objects as he fled, the community lashed out. This time, they set fire to the body.

In both cases, the authorities have noted that some youth also played roles in the aftermath of the killings, adding another layer of complexity to these incidents. Despite efforts to curb such actions by the police force, communities continue to take matters into their own hands whenever they perceive a breach of their security and trust.

These events underscore the complex relationships between law enforcement agencies, community vigilance, and societal expectations for swift justice in Karachi.
