Chris Hemsworth Praises ‘American Gigolo’ and Reveals Themes Behind His Upcoming Film ‘Crime 101’

Chris Hemsworth has praised Paul Schrader’s American Gigolo during his recent chat with The Guardian. Discussing his latest project, Crime 101—a film about a Los Angeles detective seeking out an elusive thief who partners with an insurance broker for one last heist—Hemsworth highlighted the themes that resonated most deeply with him.

In Hemsworth’s view, the characters in the story are at a pivotal stage of their lives. They recognize the necessity for transformation: “I’m done wearing this mask. The personification of myself created through societal expectations or personal assumptions about what it takes to feel fulfilled is no longer serving me.” However, they seek connection, love, and friendship.

When asked about American Gigolo, Hemsworth expressed admiration for the film. Noting that despite outward signs of success, its central character remains emotionally isolated: “There’s such a tragedy to it. He’s still a lonely child in many ways.”

Hemsworth’s reflection underscores the quiet sadness beneath surface-level glamour and success.
