CJP Yahya Afridi Addresses 30 Cases on First Day in Office

Around 968 cases are set to be heard in 5 days

Chief Justice Yahya Afridi began his first day in the Supreme Court with an impressive start, hearing 30 cases in just one hour and 15 minutes on Monday. The session began at 9:30 am and concluded by 10:45 am.

Of the 30 cases, six were adjourned until 11:30 am for various reasons, while 24 cases were swiftly addressed. Chief Justice Afridi, alongside Justice Shahid Bilal, presided over the proceedings in Bench No. 1.

Later in the day, the Chief Justice called his first full court session, which began at 1 pm. The session aimed to discuss concerns raised by judges and address other judicial matters. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, who is currently on leave for Umrah, reportedly attended the session via video link.

A fresh cause list has also been issued, indicating that around 968 cases are set to be heard from today until November 1. These cases will be handled by eight regular benches of the Supreme Court. Of these, 140 cases are scheduled for proceedings in Chief Justice Afridi’s court over the course of the week.
