DIG Traffic Karachi Mandates Cameras, Trackers in Dumpers to Curb Road Accidents

Karachi’s DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah has ordered the installation of front and rear-view cameras in dumpers to help determine fault in collisions.

With fatalities linked to heavy traffic surging in 2025, the new measure aims to enhance road safety. In addition to cameras, all dumpers operating in the city must have trackers installed to monitor their movements. Dumper owners have been given 15 days to comply.

Following discussions with the Dumpers Association, the initiative received industry approval. A digital monitoring system will be set up at the DIG Traffic office to track violations, particularly over-speeding, with immediate fines for offenders.

If successful, similar monitoring systems will be extended to other heavy vehicles across Karachi.
