France Condemns Israeli Bombing in Rafah, Demands Immediate Investigation into Civilian Deaths

The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the Israeli bombing of a residential building in Rafah, a region previously designated as a safe zone. The attack resulted in the tragic death of a French government employee, along with 10 other civilians who had sought refuge in the supposedly secure location.

In an official statement released on Sunday, the Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern over the bombing, emphasizing the need for a swift and thorough investigation by Israeli authorities to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident. The ministry demanded transparency and accountability for the tragic loss of civilian lives in the residential building.

The employee, who had been actively engaged with the French government in Gaza since 2002, tragically lost his life in the bombing. The statement revealed that some of the victim’s family members had already been evacuated from Gaza, further underscoring the human toll of the attack.

This condemnation comes amid escalating external pressure on Israel, particularly regarding what has been described as “indiscriminate” bombing raids in Gaza. The mounting civilian casualties, accounting for over 80 percent of the nearly 19,000 Palestinians killed, have intensified international scrutiny.

French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, during her visit to Tel Aviv on Sunday, urged for an “immediate and durable” truce in the Gaza war. Expressing deep concern over the dire situation in the war-torn Palestinian territory, Colonna emphasized the urgent need to halt the loss of civilian lives. The statement adds to the growing chorus of international voices calling for a cessation of hostilities and a renewed focus on diplomatic solutions in the region.

As Israel continues its offensive following the October 7 attacks, tensions remain high, underscoring the urgency for diplomatic intervention to prevent further loss of innocent lives in the ongoing conflict.
