Government to Abolish Pakistan Public Works (PWD) Department

The federal government has made the decision to shut down the Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD), according to an official notice issued by the Prime Minister’s Office this week.

The notice stated, “The Prime Minister has directed the Secretary of Housing and Works to prepare a concrete plan for winding up the Pakistan Public Works Department (Pak PWD), in consultation with the Minister for Housing and Works, and present it to the Prime Minister within a week.”

Established in 1854 and renamed after Independence, the Pakistan Public Works Department currently manages development projects valued at approximately Rs. 60 billion across the country.
