Israeli Strikes Claim 90 Lives in Jabalia Refugee Camp, Gaza, Amid Escalating Conflict

Israeli strikes on the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza have resulted in the tragic loss of 90 Palestinian lives, according to the Hamas-run Health Ministry spokesperson. The ongoing conflict has left dozens more wounded, with the camp enduring relentless tank, air, and naval bombardment.

A medic on the ground, speaking anonymously due to fears of Israeli reprisal, described the dire situation in Jabalia, highlighting the challenges faced in reaching those in need amidst the brutal warfare. The intensity of Israeli fire has created significant obstacles to rescue efforts, with concerns raised about a potentially large number of casualties trapped under rubble.

Israel's military claims of discovering weapons marked UNRWA (the UN's agency for Palestinian refugees) and rocket launchers near a school have added complexity to the situation. However, Reuters could not independently verify the footage supporting these claims.

Amid the rubble of northern Gaza, where Israel had previously asserted success in meeting military objectives against Hamas militants, the conflict has intensified. Israeli forces reported finding weapons and a tunnel used by militants in Shejaia, a suburb near Gaza City, and destroying a weapons storage facility in the home of a Hamas operative.

As fighting escalates, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, another Palestinian militant group, stated that its fighters targeted Israeli forces in Gaza City with mortar bombs. The situation remains volatile, with the humanitarian crisis deepening in the wake of continued hostilities.
