K-Electric has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident at Gul Plaza, extending heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families.

In a statement, a K-Electric spokesperson confirmed that part of the building collapsed, damaging a nearby substation and causing a temporary power outage in the area. Electricity has been suspended in the affected locality as a precaution, while alternative sources are supplying power to surrounding neighborhoods to minimize disruption.

“K-Electric teams are on-site and cooperating with authorities to support rescue and recovery efforts,” the statement said. The company also reaffirmed its commitment to public safety and stated that all necessary measures are being taken to restore normalcy once the site is deemed safe.

The fire broke out at Gul Plaza on MA Jinnah Road, Karachi, on Saturday night around 10 pm. Authorities have classified it as a third-degree fire. Eleven injured individuals are reported to be in critical condition. The deceased have been identified as Aamir (30), Faraz (55), and Asif (40), with the remaining victims yet to be confirmed.

Preliminary reports suggest that the blaze originated on the mezzanine floor of the shopping plaza, which houses a ground floor, mezzanine, and two additional floors. The fire quickly spread to shops on the ground and first floors. Fire brigade vehicles arrived nearly an hour after the incident, and rescue officials stated that several people remained trapped inside. Four fire tenders and a snorkel were deployed to control the flames.
