Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Auctions Personalised Vehicle Number Plates
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has generated significant revenue through the auction of personalised vehicle number plates in Peshawar. The event attracted strong interest from bidders, with several high-profile plates selling for millions of rupees.
The highest bid so far was recorded for ‘Wazir 1’, which sold for Rs150 million, setting a new record. Other notable sales included:
– **‘Afridi 1’**: Bought by Javed Afridi, owner of Peshawar Zalmi, for Rs140.5 million.
– **‘Khan 1’**: Purchased by Nek Muhammad Khan, PTI Member of the Provincial Assembly from Waziristan, for Rs111 million.
Additional sales included ‘Peshawar 1’ (Rs100 million), ‘Haripur 1’ (Rs80 million), and ‘Yousafzai 1’ (Rs49 million). The plate ‘804’ was withdrawn from the auction, while notable political plates such as those linked to Nawaz Sharif and Zardari were not offered for bidding.
Officials confirmed that these politically charged plates would be auctioned online instead. The event, conducted under a single-bid format, will transition to an e-bidding process for future personalised number plates, ensuring broader participation from national and international bidders.
The Provincial Minister for Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control, Syed Fakhar Jahan, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative’s overwhelming public response. He also announced plans to introduce transparent online applications through the Dastak App or direct submission to the Director General of Excise for future customised plates.
