The government has encountered a major obstacle as Maulana Fazlur Rehman, leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), firmly rejected the proposed constitutional amendments. During a luncheon meeting hosted by PTI leader Asad Qaiser on Wednesday, Maulana Rehman made his party’s position clear, completely dismissing the government’s draft amendments.

Asad Qaiser, following the meeting, confirmed that Maulana Fazlur Rehman had rejected the amendments in their entirety. The luncheon, attended by notable figures such as former President Arif Alvi and PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, was an opportunity to discuss the progress of the constitutional amendment process and the broader political landscape.

When asked about his participation in the event, Maulana Fazlur Rehman humorously responded that he had attended because Asad Qaiser had “fed him well.”

In addition to reviewing the constitutional amendments, the meeting explored the possibility of political unity between the PTI and JUI-F. Both parties expressed a willingness to collaborate in Parliament. However, Maulana Rehman reiterated that JUI-F will not support the government’s current draft, urging the government to present alternative proposals for consideration.

He stressed that backing the current draft would amount to a betrayal of the nation’s trust, labeling the proposed amendments as entirelyunacceptable.
