Mayor Murtaza Wahab has called on Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to “open the treasury” for Karachi, stating that the city requires not Rs 15 billion but Rs 1,500 billion to address its pressing issues.

Speaking to the media, Wahab urged the MQM to secure federal funding for Karachi and work alongside him. He criticized political speeches without action, emphasizing that Karachi’s biggest challenge is the lack of drinking water.

“Lahore has underground sweet water, but Karachi doesn’t. The situation cannot be compared,” he said, questioning how MQM leader Farooq Sattar plans to resolve the crisis.

Wahab highlighted ongoing work on 106 KMC roads and other internal routes while stressing that real progress requires responsibility from all citizens. He also questioned why the federal government has neglected the Sukkur-Hyderabad motorway while developing highways across the country.

He reiterated that political doors remain open for cooperation and urged federal authorities to prioritize Karachi’s development. Earlier, the Supreme Court transferred Rs 45 billion to KMC’s account following a prolonged legal battle.
