MQM Calls for Independent Judicial Commission to Investigate Deadly Karachi Fire

The MQM has reiterated its demand for an independent judicial commission to investigate the tragic Gul Plaza fire incident, which resulted in over 100 fatalities and numerous missing persons. MQM leader Farooq Sattar emphasized that the inquiry must be conducted by a Supreme Court judge to ensure impartiality.

Sattar stated that completing the count of missing individuals is crucial for the families’ peace of mind. He also highlighted the significant financial losses suffered by traders in the Gul Plaza area, which exceeded billions of rupees.

Rescue operations at the site have now continued for nine days and are ongoing, with teams recovering human remains from the collapsed building’s debris. The bodies discovered include those found in a shop where forensic examinations were conducted. Forensic videos related to these findings should also be made public.

Efforts continue through rescue services such as Rescue 1122 and Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams, who are clearing rubble and searching for missing persons. As of the latest update, human remains have been recovered from the third floor and transported to Civil Hospital Karachi for DNA testing to confirm identities.
