Russian missile and drone strikes have resulted in nine deaths and dozens wounded across Ukraine, as reported on Tuesday. This follows President Zelenskyy’s warning days prior that Moscow was preparing a “massive new strike.”
The Russian military launched 656 drones and 73 missiles at Ukraine Monday night into Tuesday morning. According to the air force, 40 of these were downed or neutralized but they hit 38 sites in Ukraine with Kyiv being the main target.
In the Ukrainian capital, local authorities reported several explosions from ballistic missile strikes, causing fires, power outages and trapping people in damaged buildings. Mayor Klitschko confirmed four deaths and at least 58 wounded including two children.
Elsewhere, a Russian attack on Dnipro left five dead and 25 injured, three of whom were seriously hurt. In Kharkiv, ten were wounded while a drone strike in Kursk region resulted in one death near the Ukrainian border. A fire was also sparked at an oil refinery in Krasnodar.
These strikes come after Zelensky’s call for people to “protect your lives” and his appeal to allies for Patriot missiles to counter Russian attacks. Ukraine has increased its retaliatory strikes on occupied territories and Russia itself.
