Norwegian government announces ban on trading goods from Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territories. Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide stated, “Norwegian citizens and companies must not profit from or support activities that help sustain Israel’s unlawful settlement activity in Palestine.”
The proposed legislation includes a ban on importing and exporting goods from these settlements, as well as real estate transactions. The United Nations has deemed Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories illegal.
Israel argues its presence is justified by biblical and historical ties to the West Bank. Despite this, the UN’s highest court ruled against Israel’s settlement activities in 2024.
The consultation period for the Norwegian bill ends on September 19.
